Ha! I bet you didn't think you'd hear from me until June. That's probably not an unreasonable assumption.
There has been a bit of knitting in the last month, but I have also been hampered by injury and the plague.
So I started the year with my rotator cuff injury, but my most excellent GP gave me a cortisone shot, and after about 4 weeks, it was good as new. (Hallelujah). I'm still rehabbing in terms of getting the strength back, but I just drop down to a lighter weight on that side.
Then we had the great dog bite episode of 2018. Bastian and Lilah were going at it (she had his head and ear in her jaws and wouldn't let go). I tried to separate them and Bastian seemed not to realize it was me and chomped down on me a good one. I nearly passed out from the pain, and I have a reasonably high pain threshold.
Anyway, there were two deep puncture wounds on the back of my right hand and one deep and wide gash on the palm. I won't bore you with the inefficiencies of the NS medical system, but I ended up going to Emergency the next day because it was swollen and infected. So I had four days of IV antibiotics and a half cast, and then another few days in the half cast and another 10 days of horse pill antibiotics.
It's fine now.
Then I came down with the plague or a very bad man cold which knocked me for a loop for about 5 days. I dosed myself with mega amounts of medication and slept it off (in between having to spend the weekend marking).
But now I'm back. Unfortunately, my career as a hand model is over before it even began. Oh well.
So I was unable to knit while in a cast and my hand was sore for a bit. And of course that's when I really wanted to knit.
I have completed two pairs of socks. I think that's it. And I've had two 2018 sock club yarn shipments. That's all the excitement there is.
Shall we begin?
I knit a pair of Fulgurite socks with a matching heel skein for my buddy at work. He really likes hand knit socks, and since he is knitworthy, I'm happy to keep knitting him socks. At first he was just wearing them at home, but now he wears them to work. So, yes, he totally deserves new socks.
The yarn for these is String Theory Colorworks in the Wave base in the Fulgurite colourway.
These were just plain stockinette as opposed to the 3x1 rib because it's harder to do the rib when there are only 3 rows of one colour.
There's some construction going on in the general vicinity, and they seem to have lifted a house off its previous foundation. I assume they are going to gut whatever is there (including the old chimney) and put in a new basement or something. It's quite fascinating.
You'd never know Lilah is so vicious from her sweet little face.
There's an old cemetery downtown (I think it might be called the old Burying Grounds, but I could be making that up). It contains American soldiers from some distant war. They stopped taking people some time in the 18o0s because the land is all used up and full of bodies. It's one of my favourite cemeteries because it has really nifty tombstones. They must be doing some sort of restorations or something, because they have all these white tents over what I assume are some of the tombstones.
That crow on the branch is marvelous.
There are still Xmas wreaths up in various places, including on some of the houses in my neighbourhood. But there are wreaths on the fence outside yet another of the cemeteries on peninsular Halifax.
And I'm always a sucker for a painted utility box.
My January/February String Theory Colorworks sock club offering came. I am now two offerings behind.
This one is called Epiphyte. I always get mine in the Entanglement base since 75/25 is my favourite base for socks.
There's something vaguely rude about the stitch marker, but then again I have a dirty mind.
Anyway, I love the colours and can't wait to cast on.
I kind of liked the view of Barrington on my drive the other day.
For two mortal enemies in combat, Bastian and Lilah spend a lot of time snuggling and sitting together.
I joined the Knitterly Things Rainbow of the Month Club. I got January's offering a couple of days ago. It's called Paint Box.
I'm not sure if this is an automatic renewal thing each month or not. I thought it was, but I am often wrong. Anyway, it's kind of nifty.
I also started and finished the second sock out of my Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn (80/20? 90/10?) in the Villain colourway. It's just basically a 3x1 rib.
There's a Lorna's Laces colourway which this reminds me of, but I can't think of the name.
But that's it for photos, folks. We're done.
I ordered 6 skeins of yarn from String Theory Colorworks yesterday. Oops.
And I have started on the November/December STC sock club offering. It's similar to some of the colours in Hydra, but the width of the stripes is more varied. I am quite excited.
AND I have a three-day weekend where I don't have to work. It's Heritage Day here on Monday, so I may get a sock finished.
I am also working on another striped infinity cowl for me. I'm using the Canon Hand Dyes Rainbow Chaos minis and a skein of Sweet Georgia Cashluxe Fine in Ultraviolet for the contract. It will be fabbity fab fab.
Happy February. I'll try to blog again in March.
Oh, I finally got the story on your hand. Bad Lilah!
