I don't really understand American politics, but this presidential election has me on tenterhooks. I can't bear to watch. But I can't stop watching. I will distract myself with blogginess.
There's only one new yarn-related item. The rest is all scenic stuff and whatnot.
I'll start with the sock. I decided to start a new pair of socks for Princess's boyfriend. He has size 11 feet. And apparently the socks I knit him before are difficult to get on. I used size 2.25 and 2.0 mm needles. But I know better now. The Hazel Knits Artisan Spruce sock was a fail because I ran out of yarn. The second sock is in time out and is still on a set of needles.
I decided to use my skein of Poste Yarn targhee/nylon blend in the Gotham colourway. It's the one that looks like Typewriter by Hedgehog Fibres. Targhee isn't as soft as merino, but it is definitely a very warm yarn. I knit Princess a hat out of some BMFA Targhee worsted, and it's the warmest hat she's ever had. Somewhere I have the rest of the skein and I'll do a matching hat for her BF.
Anyway, Princess told me that G-man (her boyfriend) wears white cotton tube socks under his woollen socks. So I figured if that's the case, I'm not going to do anything more than plain vanilla. I did 72 stitches again, but went up to a 2.5 mm needle. The sock is huge. I also did 92 rows for the foot. The last pair of socks was 100 rows for the foot, but that was smaller needles. I do 20 rows of ribbing and 80 rows on the leg before starting the heel flap.
It's as long as Lilah. I hope it fits.
Oh thank God. Hilary just got 4 more electoral votes. It's 48 to 60. I might vomit.
The rest of this is all about pictures I took today. I love my phone. And I love colour.
Some of the houses in the neighbourhood still have their Halloween decorations up. I love this particular house. This one just cracks me up. This year the witch is sporting a skirt. Either that or she's wearing a garbage bag. Maybe she's dumpster diving.
It was seriously frosty this morning.
But since I'm peri-menopausal or full out menopausal, I'm okay with this. (Come to think of it, I haven't had a hot flush in what seems like weeks....)
I decided to go for a walk at lunch today, which is a rarity for me. Usually I'm chained to my desk. I went off in a different direction from usual and came smack right up against a bunch of construction progress. The whole downtown is changing.
I am quite certain I have not seen any of this before. How is that possible? I guess I don't get to central downtown very much. We're kind of off at the far end.
I *think* this is the Nova Centre.
That juxtaposition of the old and the new is striking.
There were some kites in the windows of the Maritime Hobbies and Crafts shop. Too bad there was so much glare.
Of course I'm partial to the frog kite.
Hang on, I have to go peek at the election results.
Okay. Phew. No change.
There was a guy up on a ladder re-painting the wall of the Black Market. This is the very funky store full of funky objects such as wooden dildos and sugar skulls and footstools.
Then I headed down to the Argyle Fine Art Gallery. There's a picture in the front window which is amazing. It's the inside of the Tardis. The artist is Jenny Johnson and the painting is "Adventures in Time and Space - Inside the Tardis."
You know how I love art and bright colours.
This little guy was on display inside and downstairs.
Then I discovered a whole bed of these cabbagey flowery things outside the Maritime Building. I want a bunch of those for my garden next year.
Then back at work here's a view from inside the building looking down toward Pier 21.
With the time change it gets dark very quickly. It's pitch black by 5:30. But at 5:00 the sun is just going down. Tonight was magical.
Oh no. It's 97 to 129. I can't stand this. Seriously, what is with the Trump stronghold all the way down the middle of the US?
Okay, I'm going to breathe deeply and maybe do some knitting. I suspect my gauge will be a little tight....
So you know by now...
Thank goodness for knitting.

This election was a shit show. I'm literally embarrassed to be an American.
