I may be able to squeeze in some fibery / fibrey goodness into this post. It seems a little cruel to have a knitting blog where there are posts without any yarn.
But because I am currently obsessing about clouds (and no, I will not use the trite phrase that I am "addicted" to clouds), I am giving you some cloudp0rn first.
Debby from the Periscoping Sisters commented that one of these was a Wendy Sky after I posted it on Instagram. There ya go - 2 seconds of fame.
After Princess and her driving companion landed in Victoria, they got to work painting. Princess has moved in with her BF. He owns the condo. It was previously rented out. It's a tiny small cosy 2-bedroom condo in the heart of downtown Victoria. There is one bathroom which has doors to the hallway and the master bedroom "walk in" (ie. walk-through) closet. The second bedroom is a guest bedroom. There's a living room, a reasonable kitchen (given the size), a dining area, a (gas, I think) fireplace and the world's smallest balcony. I kid you not. The balcony is about 25 square feet.
But Princess was sending along progress pics before I came out. She wanted to make it nice and homey.
They painted the master bedroom a medium grey, similar to what is downstairs in the basement. And she liked the teal of our powder room and the Lad's bathroom so much that she painted the second bedroom teal. This doesn't quite do it justice, but it's pretty close.
Princess completely surprised me by asking if I would knit some dishcloths for her.
I thought she hated the dishcloths. She always uses those things with the scrubby head and the tube which you fill with dishwashing liquid. She always said the cloths were ghetto.
But apparently she likes them for cleaning the counters etc.
So I dug into my stash of $2 kitchen crafting cotton and dug out some skeins which I thought would work with her. As you may be able to tell, she is a fan of the blues and the purples. She doesn't like any of the colours at the warm end of the spectrum, which is just plain wrong. But I still love her.
I decided to use some of the patterns from Dishcloth Diva.
I sent her progress pics, but since they're do-able in an evening, there wasn't much point.
There is some more yarn-related stuff for this post, but I am going to make you suffer through more cloudp0rn first.
I just love the way that some of them look like they're lit from within.
And Princess is smitten with Victoria and sent some pretty cool cloudp0rn as well.
Apparently this cloudp0rn thing is genetic.
But I promised yarn. I have been very good about not buying yarn for a good longish while (well, for me anyway).
I got my first instalment of the second half of the StringTheory Colorworks club. It's an isomer, which means it's two fraternal twins. I like them. The colours are kind of a cherry/burgundy and grey. It reminds me a bit of school uniform colours (although mine were actually forest green and grey).
It's probably safe to post this now. It's been about a month I think. The colourway name is Apophis.
I had to put all other knitting on hold while I banged out the dishcloths.
Banged out is a relative term. My work life has been so incredibly busy this year that I am not getting a lot of evening knitting time. It's why I guard my weekend knitting time so protectively.
But once I was done with the dishcloths, I cast on another sock. I am hoping to enter it into one of the many CanadaKal contests going on. The yarn is Pixie Dust by Kaleidoscope Dyeworks out of Edmonton.
This is how far I got before I left on vacation.
Whoa - that's a massive picture.
I had ordered a bag from SelmaKnits (Little Creek Designs on Etsy) before I left and it arrived a day or two before I went. It's lovely. I like drawstrings because they don't have teeth on which yarn gets snagged. It's a good sock sized bag. I think it's called a shawl sized bag or something. It's not a rivulet, it's whatever the next step up is. Stream or River or something.
The bag has a coordinating green fabric at the top and the draw-cord and the lining are a plain grey. Selma also sent a beautiful card with a handwritten note and the ubiquitous sachet of tea.
Princess had ordered a futon for the spare room, but it hadn't arrived. So she asked how mad I would be if I had to sleep on an air mattress. I was envisioning one of those little things which have the baffles and are black rubber covered in some sort of red or navy blue fabric and which are the width of a yoga mat and which smell like rubber.
This is the air mattress.
Say WHAT?
It's a pillow-top queen size air mattress.
Who knew? It's I think higher than the double size mattress Princess and the Lads have on their beds, and I think those are 14" mattresses.
Naturally I said that was fine. It was super comfy. And it is plugged in. So you can add or release air as needed. Fancy schmancy.
The other bit of pre-vacation yarny goodness was my last Canon Hand Dyes Minis Club arrival. I have cancelled my subscription since I can always order the 5g minis and the contrast skein kind of at the yarn club time. There's no period of exclusivity and I've only knit three kits so far. At $84 USD, it's a bit too pricey at the moment. (Some people use the word "spendy" which I like, but I tend to think that spendy applies to the purchaser, not the actual goods purchased).
This club is the Nancy Drew Mysteries offering. The contrast skein is (shockingly) not grey but a bright yellow. I think I might knit this one. Likely into a cowl. Again, shocking, I know.
Speaking of yarn clubs, I haven't received my July and August instalments from the Yarn Enabler Pencil Crayon of the Month Club. She was holding on to the July skeins to send with the August ones because of the looming Canada Post strike at the beginning of July. But now it's the end of August and I haven't seen them. Note to self: must follow up and shoot her a note to see what's up.
Okay, I think I will close this one here.
I will leave the airplane cloudp0rn for one of my subsequent Aug blog posts.
Now I might knit a few rows before crawling off to bed.
