I'm all out of inspiration for titles. So this is untitled and it will be short. (Or as short as I can make it, given my tendency to ramble).
I've finished the Cavalcade socks in the Orchid Blue Label yarn from Tanis Fiber Arts. I don't know what's up with the iPhone camera. Everything is kind of hazy. Perhaps because today was the first day we've actually had sun in about a month, and maybe the phone was in shock.
Princess got herself a new phone and gave me her "old" iPhone 5. My 4 was serviceable but slow (I've had it for 3 years). So the camera on the 5 is better, but it has weird features. I realized after taking the sock photos that it was on something called "Square" rather than "Photo". I would have thought that "Hazy" would be more apt than "Square", but what do I know? I'm not a techie.
Anyway, the Cavalcades are done.
I am going to try to knit all my club yarns and patterns this year. *Try* is the operative word here.
I have a skein of TFA Purple Label yarn in the discontinued Amber colourway already wound. I am soon going to cast on a sock using just the back of the Cavalcade pattern. It's an 8-stitch, 4-row mock cable eyelet pattern, and it will make a great all-over sock.
I have finished the first Fort Mac sock and have 14 more rows on the foot before the toe decreases on the second sock. I should be able to bang that out tonight. That will assuage my maternal guilt enough for me to work on some (more) socks for me, such as perhaps one of the Cookie A sock club socks.
Princess really likes the socks made from STR mediumweight because they're thicker and warmer in winter. When she left for Fort Mac (her camp is in some place called Anzac, Alberta), the temperature was -21 with a wind chill of -36. For my American friends, that's -5.8F with a wind chill of -32.8F. Too cold for me.
It warmed up to a balmy -11 today in Anzac.
It warmed up to a balmy 2 or 3 degrees here today, and the sun was shining. So I'm mystified as to why we have a Rainfall warning, a Freezing Rain warning, and a Wind warning still in effect.
It was so windy last night that the house was shaking. I expected to wake up this morning and see a pair of legs in striped socks with ruby slippers poking out from under the house. No such luck. I'll have to create my own striped socks.
Anyway, back to the Fort Mac socks. I'll do up the pattern (a whole pattern, perhaps, rather than just the stitch pattern).
It's 64 stitch, but it's a 4-stich repeat, so I might write it up for 56, 60, 64, 68 and 72. (Hmm.. that looks like a lot of options. I might just do 56, 64 and 72). It's just knits and purls. It's basically 2x2 rib of 8 rows (leg) or 7 rows (foot) with a plain knit row in between. Easy peasy. Eye of partridge heel and a standard gusset decrease only because I didn't have any stitch markers with me. Typically I prefer the Afshari gusset if I'm not doing the Turtle Girl sole decrease gusset.
The yarn is STR mediumweight in Kalish. I don't care whether it's pooling and flashing. The seocnd sock doesn't have that blurky splodge of the light grey. It's variegated yarn. Whatever.
Anyway, I also started my second Ordo ex Chao sock. I have about 4" done. It's funny how much smaller 2.25 mm needles feel than 2.50 mm needles.
Tomorrow I have a boatload of marking to do, but no class to prepare for, so it's a trade-off. Tonight I'm knitting.
No stashquisition to show you. I'm only getting club yarns in 2014. I joined the Canon Hand Dyes minis club back in I think October, and the first shipment (it's 4 x / year) shipped out last week. Some of the people on Rav have already received theirs, but of course those are in the US. Mine *might* arrive next week. But it's coming from California, so I'm not betting the farm on it.
I got the smallest option, which is 5g skeins (18-24 yards each) and there are 24 mini skeins plus the skein of a neutral. This offering is peacock colours. I'm quite pumped. I think I'll do a stripey tubular cowl.
I'll leave you with a shot of Cookie. He's Princess' cat. He's 16. He lives in the Dragon's Den (aka the basement) with Belle (aka nasty cat) and Princess. He misses her. So I'm on food / water / litterbox / love and affection duty.
Yes, it's far too many animals, but they're family. What can I say?
(But Leslie -- cats are WAY easier than dogs....Just sayin'.....)
