Let me not be accused of being a blind follower. A lemming, I am not. I will be lucky if I get *any* sock knitting done this month.
Why? Well, because it's Scarftober, of course.
I decided last night to start weaving ends and see how that would go.
It's a little bumpy, but I'll get it a little more evenly tensioned as I go along. I should probably do some weaving in as I go along, or I will have a zillion ends to weave in at the last minute. It's kind of like that wretched intarsia sock from Tour de Sock this summer.
The Lad was looking at the pattern on the screen last night and he counted 400-odd rows. I can't remember the exact number, but it was daunting. By the time I've finished my current stripe (44 rows of green), I'll be about 25% of the way there.
I want to work on my San Mateo cowl. I want to knit a bunch of socks. This is just large and heavy and scratchy. But I'm committed and it must be done.
So that's where I am. I'm knitting endless rows of garter stitch. I try not to cringe when I look at the notes in my knitting book. It's not so bad if there are 20 or fewer rows per stripe. But I can see that I have a 54-row section of tan coming up, and it's making me twitchy. Further along there's a 40-row section of brown, a 42-row section of red, a 44-row section of tan, a 56-row section of green, a 36-row section of grey, a 32-row section of brown and a 36-row section of purple.
If you're looking for me, I'll be the one who is either comatose or in a straitjacket.
On the yarn front, I had ordered a Woolgirl Martini kit because Plucky Knitter was the dyer. It arrived today.
The only fly in the ointment is that there is a rip in the project bag, so I'm going to have to figure out how to fix it by hand. As usual, the Woolgirl presentation is lovely.
I know some people are disappointed that the yarn is Plucky Feet and not Primo Fingering, but I love the Plucky feet. I'm not likely to do the shawl pattern and I haven't investigated the sock pattern. I like the fact that there are the equivalent of dyer's notes in there from Woolgirl. So once I have slogged away on more retro appliance garter stitch and managed not to stab my eye with a DPN, I will take a look at those in more detail.
Perhaps next week I'll have half the scarf done. I guess it will be a (w)HO. Ha ha ha ha klunk.
Oh, yeah -- the result of last weekend's soccer tournament?
That would be first place, first division.
